Thank you to the PNC Foundation!

Jeff Szumigale, Senior Vice President at PNC Financial Services Group, presented a check to BMC Executive Director, Richard Eisenberg.  The PNC Foundation donated $5,000 to support the construction of Erie’s historic 1812 Schooner Porcupine, which will sail as the Schoolship for Presque Isle Bay. Thank you so much!

Summer Credit Recovery Program

The Bayfront Summer Credit Recovery Program begins Monday, June 19th. Twenty-seven Erie High School students have registered and hope to complete one or more classes towards their successful graduation.  BMC teachers will assist students and sailing, rowing and paddling will be available for the teens in the afternoons. We are looking forward to a great summer!

Safe Boating Course

  The Erie Power Squadron is offering an 8 week ABC3 Safe Boating Course at the Bayfront Maritime Center, 40 Holland Street, Erie, PA. Class meets Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. March 6, 2017 through April 24, 2017. Registration begins at 6:30 pm on Monday, March 6th. Fee for books, materials, shipping and handling is $50. There is also a fee for piloting supplies, if needed. Instruction is free. Those who pass the course earn a Pennsylvania Boating Safety Certificate and can save money on boat insurance. The course is mandatory for those born after Jan. 1, 1982, who

Tall Ships Festival 2016

It’s been an exciting week on the bayfront!  Eight beautiful tall ships descended upon Erie for the Tall Ships Festival.  Thanks to the Flagship Niagara League, our Bayfront Alternative Education students were able to tour several of the ships. Our rich maritime heritage inspires us all!

Project SAIL 2016-2017

BMC’s after school program, Project SAIL, is accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year.  Teens, ages 15-18, who live in Erie County, are eligible to apply. Fall classes begin on September 12, 2016 and run through November 1, 2016. .  For more information

Project SAIL Spring Session Begins April 4th!

Applications are being accepted for the Spring Session of the Project SAIL After School Program. Choose either Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays; both classes begin at 3:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm. Paid work experience for teens aged 15 – 18 years old.  http://bayfrontcenter.org/education/project-sail/ Two Project SAIL students, Gage and Tyler, completed the program and then went on to finish a year long apprenticeship in carpentry at BMC.

BMC Volunteer Featured in Erie Yacht Club’s Log

The Erie Yacht Club‘s Log recently had a feature article on Christopher Laird, one of BMC’s dedicated volunteers and a inveterate sailor. Chris is a mentor for our Project SAIL and Project VOYAGE apprentices, assists with our events and boat projects, and participates in our Community Rowing Program. Chris also volunteers as an ESL tutor at the Multicultural Community Resource Center. Way to go, Chris!
