Shipwright Bob Arlet has been working on attaching the stern tube. The 24″ Max Prop is on and the rudder remounted. The fuel tanks just passed their hydrostatic test for the USCG inspectors and the fire bottles, fire-blankets, and fuel shut-offs are all approved. The sinks (4!) are set in place. Next comes exhaust, thru hulls, plumbing and wiring.

Jeff Szumigale, Senior Vice President at PNC Financial Services Group, presented a check to BMC Executive Director, Richard Eisenberg. The PNC Foundation donated $5,000 to support the construction of Erie’s historic 1812 Schooner Porcupine, which will sail as the Schoolship for Presque Isle Bay. Thank you so much!
The Bayfront Summer Credit Recovery Program begins Monday, June 19th. Twenty-seven Erie High School students have registered and hope to complete one or more classes towards their successful graduation. BMC teachers will assist students and sailing, rowing and paddling will be available for the teens in the afternoons. We are looking forward to a great summer!
The Erie Power Squadron is offering an 8 week ABC3 Safe Boating Course at the Bayfront Maritime Center, 40 Holland Street, Erie, PA. Class meets Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. March 6, 2017 through April 24, 2017. Registration begins at 6:30 pm on Monday, March 6th. Fee for books, materials, shipping and handling is $50. There is also a fee for piloting supplies, if needed. Instruction is free. Those who pass the course earn a Pennsylvania Boating Safety Certificate and can save money on boat insurance. It’s been an exciting week on the bayfront! Eight beautiful tall ships descended upon Erie for the Tall Ships Festival. Thanks to the Flagship Niagara League, our Bayfront Alternative Education students were able to tour several of the ships. Our rich maritime heritage inspires us all!
BMC’s after school program, Project SAIL, is accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year. Teens, ages 15-18, who live in Erie County, are eligible to apply. Fall classes begin on September 12, 2016 and run through November 1, 2016. . For more information

Applications are being accepted for the Spring Session of the Project SAIL After School Program. Choose either Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays; both classes begin at 3:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm.
