BMC was graciously invited to attend the 2013 small Boats Alliance this week in Mystic Seaport Connecticut. With an Alliance of over 60+ maritime themed education centers, stretching from the U.S to Canada, our Director Rich Eisenberg is on the board of the committee of these Maritime educators.
On Sunday September 15th, about 80 children and adults with special needs and their families, and the 25 extremely dedicated volunteers who make EASE, the Erie Adaptive Sailing Experience adaptive sailing program happen, met on the BMC waterfront campus to celebrate the 12th great year of sailing. The event included: – A barbeque picnic, – Prizes and awards for the sailors – Premier viewing of the 2013 EASE Video – Sailboat rides for the sailors and their families on Taco the Town,BMC’s 35’ racing catamaran, and the EASE escort vessel – Games THANK YOU to the many dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to make EASE happen in Erie! BAEP students are fortunate; the Tall Ship Festival is happening right outside BMC’s facility! Students were given a tour of all the ships, and learned about working and living on a tall ship.

Klaus graduated with honors from Gannon University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts, English degree and minors in both, Pre-Law and Business Administration. His past experience includes an internship at the Erie Art Museum and several years working as a Television Production Assistant at WQLN Public Media. He also worked as a Constituent Services Assistant in the Office of Senator Robert Casey. His other interests include working as a youth basketball coach and referee, playing piano, writing for the school newspaper and reading. Klaus has already proved himself invaluable,
Thank You! This has been an unprecedented week at the Bayfront Maritime Center. The 2nd-Annual Small Boat Festival went off without a hitch, both the Cardboard Boat Regatta and the Presque Isle Bay Messabout. Thousands came out and showed their support! As if this wasn’t enough, on Tuesday the 13th, generous benefactors donated $4,040 to BMC on Erie Gives Day 2013, which more than doubles last year’s total. The Erie Times News section “Her Times” has named Richard Eisenberg, BMC’s Executive Director, their Remarkable Man of the Month. The Erie Times’ Suzanne Scarpino stated: ” [T]he Bayfront Maritime Center is home to some of the most successful youth programming in the region — and Richard Eisenberg has been at the helm since day one.” When asked about the Maritime Center’s programming, Eisenberg said: “We’re not trying to crank out boat builders or sailors, but kids that are successful, who can think on their feet, effectively communicate, problem-solve, and disagree without fighting. Those are skills that are important in any job setting.”
The Erie Admirals S.C. volunteered their time and talent to host a soccer workshop for Bayfront Summer Migrant/ESL program students. A big THANK YOU to the Admirals!Our students love soccer and the visit made their day.
Come out to the Perry 200 Parade on May 25th! BMC’s float will be the St. Ayles Skiff, built by Erie High School students in the Bayfront Alternative Education Program and BMC’s after-school program, Project SAIL. Over 60 teenagers have worked to build the rowing skiff since beginning in mid-September. It is 22’ long, 5’8” wide, and will be powered by four people rowing with a coxswain steering. There are 20 high schools in the United States currently building or rowing St. Ayles Skiffs. This skiff is the beginning of Erie’s first Community Rowing Program.

Allegheny students spent part of their Alternative Spring Break at BMC. They did a fantastic job cleaning up the boatshop and organizing our safety equipment.
