Friendship Sloop Momentum’s First Day Back in the Water

New Covers for the EASE Access Dinghies

Over the weekend Bren and Mike picked up the new EASE Access Dinghy covers.  They are fantastic! Thanks to the friends and family of the late Donald L. Smith, for the memorial contributions sent to BMC. Don was an avid sailor and a boat builder, so his daughter thought that it would be fitting that the funds be used for our adaptive sailing program, EASE. Due to this kind gesture, we were able to purchase new tarps for our Access Sailing Dinghies, which BMC use to teach sailing to children with developmental and physical disabilities.

Project SAIL After School Program Begins New Season!

Project SAIL, BMC’s after school program, is up and running with a full roster of 31 apprentices. Students sailed as much as possible last week to take advantage of the warm, sunny weather. This week they went on their first field trip to our neighbor, Donjon Shipbuilding & Repair. Experiences like this raise career awareness about future jobs available in the maritime industry . Project SAIL is made possible by grants from the TK Foundation, and the United Way of Erie County.

BMC Sails with Erie Shriners Hospitals Children

This is the 12th year of the Erie Adaptive Sailing Program, EASE, and the 11th year we have sailed with kids from the Erie Shriners Hospitals for Children. The wind and weather were perfect for a fun day on the water. Many kids were paddling kayaks for the first time! Thank you to all the EASE volunteers who have made the program grow and thrive! EASE is the only adaptive sailing program in Pennsylvania.

2012 EASE Program Underway

The EASE program allows youth with physical and/or mental disabilities to sail independently on Presque Isle Bay.
