The Redemption Race gets underway

With thousands of spectators cheering them on, more than 150 boaters set sail in their cardboard boats for the Bayfront Maritime Center’s annual cardboard boat regatta. Some sailed all the way to the finish line, some barely made it, and others sank.

But the regatta is more than just a competition, it’s a fundraiser for the Bayfront Maritime Center and an educational experience.

“It’s a great way to work with kids to teach them math and science and team work and measuring and careful cutting and fitting and perseverance and end up with a product that you can have some fun with,” said Rich Eisenberg, executive director of the Bayfront Maritime Center.
